Thank you for visiting the New Haven Club of the National Association of Business and Professional
Women’s Clubs, Inc. (NANBPWC).
It is an honor to serve as President of this award-winning Club,
comprised of accomplished women dedicated to advancing business and professional women while serving as role models for our youth.
Our mission is clear: To promote and protect the interests of African American business and professional women; to serve as advisors for young people seeking to enter business and the professions; to improve the quality of life in our local and global communities; and to foster good fellowship.

We proudly stand on the shoulders of our national founders, Emma Odessa Young, Ollie Chinn Porter,and Effie Diton of New York City; Bertha Perry Rhodes, Josephine B. Keene, and Adelaide Hardy Flemming of Philadelphia; and Goldeana Pearle Flipping of Atlantic City, who established theorganization in 1936. Inspired by their vision, the New Haven Club was chartered in November 1944 bySara Lee Flemming, Grace Dadd, and twelve trailblazing members.The establishment of both our national and local organizations was driven by a bold and transformativevision: to attract women of high caliber and purpose. Confronted with the barriers of their time, thesepioneering women created a space where Black women could share experiences, exchange knowledge,protect their interests, and cultivate opportunities in business and the professions. Their courage gaverise to a legacy that continues to shape lives and strengthen communities today.True to the mission of our founders, the New Haven Club remains a beacon for women of substancewho are committed to uplifting and advancing business and professional women. As we reflect on thesacrifices and determination of those who came before us, we must also ask ourselves: Are we doingenough?While progress has been made, social, economic, and educational inequities persist. As civic andbusiness leaders, we are called to carry our founders’ legacy forward with renewed purpose, advancingequity, strengthening our communities, and cultivating the next generation of leaders.Through impactful programs focused on Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Technology, and Service, alongwith a thriving youth initiative, the New Haven Club remains steadfast in its commitment toempowerment and excellence.I invite you to join our cause, invest in our mission, or partner with us as an ally.
